1994 CART Elkhart Lake 200

Following the success the previous CART event, we decided to renew the experience with a similar race (using a different mod however) : the 14th round of the 1994 CART Indycar Series at Elkhart Lake.

This race saw the first win of the Canadian rookie phenomenon Jacques Villeneuve, driving a Reynard chassis. He took the edge on the 2 Penskes of Emerson Fittipaldi and Paul Tracy in a incredibly daring overtaking manoeuvre following a restart and managed to keep them behind for the rest of race.

That was no easy task as 1994 had been outragely dominated by the team Penske and its three "Juggernauts". Al Unser Jr won 8 races, including the famous Indy 500, on his way to the driver crown, while his teammates, Paul Tracy and Emerson Fittipaldi , respectively took 3 and 1 victories. The Penske chassis was the car to beat all season long, on every types of tracks.

1994 was also Reynard's first year in the series, and the car proved immediatly competitive by winning its maiden race at Surfers Paradise, driven by Michael Andretti, coming back to the series after a difficult year in F1. Reynard won 3 races in total that year, Andretti also winning at Toronto.

On the other hand, Lola had a very difficult year and scored only one victory, Scott Goodyear at Michigan in a high-attrition race. The great Newmann Haas duo of former F1 world champions, Nigel Mansell and Mario Andretti was rarely a serious threat to the Penskes, and always had lots of mechanical problems when the car was competitive.

On the engine side, Mercedes for its first year showed great efficiency by fully supporting the Penske team, but Ford was still a very good and cheaper choice. Honda also entered the series that year, but the engine was nowhere near its rivals, on both power and reliability sides.

The cars, engines and tyres caracterstics are extremely close to the CART Factor mod we used at Mid Ohio, slightly adjusted to match the real cars perfomances.

Thursday March 4th
9:00 pm : First qualifying session ( 2 hours )

Saturday March 6th
9:00 pm : Second qualifying session ( 3 hours )

Sunday March 7th
8:00 pm : Free practice
8:30 : Warm-up and drivers briefing
8:45 : Race start

Race distance : 50 laps.

Starting procedure

The race will feature a flying start.

- Drivers will be placed on the grid according to their qualifying times,
- Once you are on the grid, dont move until an admin said "GO" in the game chat.
- Then the drivers will start their cars to complete a lap at reduced speed (180 kph max) while maintaining their positions.
- The pole-sitter will have to make sure his pace allows the all pack to remain grouped,
- On the exit of last turn, drivers will go side by side, on starting grid formation.
- When the leading cars will be in starting line, an admin will give the real start of the race by typing "GREEN FLAG" in the chat.

Special orders:

- As for every HSO race, drivers are asked to use their real names only, wether in qualifying or in the race itself - nicknames are not allowed.

- Chatting is strictly forbidden during the race.

Après le succès du dernier open CART, nous avons décidé de renouveler l'expérience avec une course similaire (mais un mod différent cependant) : la 14eme manche du championnat CART Indycar 1994 à Elkhart Lake.

Cette course vue la première victoire de l'impressionnant rookie Canadien Jacques Villeneuve sur Reynard. Alors 3ème, il pris le meilleur sur les 2 Penske d'Emerson Fittipaldi et Paul Tracy grâce à un dépassement incroyablement osé lors d'un restart et réussit à les garder derrière lui pendant le reste de la course.

Ce ne fût pas tâche facile car 1994 fût une saison outrageusement dominée par le team Penske et ses 3 "Juggernauts" comme ils étaient surnommés à l'époque. Al Unser Junior remporta 8 courses, dont les fameux Indy 500, dans sa conquête du titre pilote alors que ses équipiers, Paul Tracy et Emerson Fittpaldi gagnèrent respectivement 3 et 1 courses. Les 3 pilotes finirent aux 3 premières places du championnat, une performance qui n'a jamais été rééditée jusqu'à présent.

1994 fût aussi la première année du constructeur Reynard dans ce championnat. Son châssis se montra immédiatement compétitif en gagnant dès sa première course, à Surfers Paradise avec Michael Andretti, de retour après une année difficile en F1. Reynard remporta 3 courses cette saison, Andretti gagnant aussi à Toronto.

A l'inverse, l'année fût très difficile pour Lola, qui ne remporta qu'une seule victoire, grâce à Scott Goodyear au Michigan, lors d'une course qui vu un très grand nombre d'abandons. Le duo d'anciens champions de F1 de Newmann Haas, Nigel Mansell et Mario Andretti, ne fût que rarement en mesure d'inquiéter les Penske boys, et toujours frappés par des problèmes mécaniques lorsque la voiture était compétitive.

Du coté des moteurs, Mercedes connut le succès dès sa première année grâce à un très fort soutient au team Penske, mais Ford était toujours un très bon choix, puissant, fiable et peu couteux. Honda faisait aussi ses débuts en Indycar, mais son moteur manquait cruellement de puissance et de fiabilité face à ses concurrents.

Procédure de départ

La course démarrera par un départ lancé.
Une fois les voitures sur la grille, lorsque les feux vert s'allumeront, les pilotes s'élanceront pour une tour de formation à vitesse réduite.
A la sortie du dernier virage, les pilotes se remettront en formation (mêmes positions que sur la grille de départ), et un admin donnera le départ en tapant les mots "GREEN FLAG" dans le chat.

Consignes spéciales :

- Comme pour chaque courses HSO, les pilotes devront y participer avec leur vrai nom, les pseudonymes sont interdits.

- Le chat est strictement interdit en course.

I love the feel of these cars but I can't go quick around the track Only 1:51's! 13 seconds to slow

Why 13s too slow ? I dont think somebody will lap in 1'38 around here, I have made quite a lot of testing here and my best lap is 1'43'0

I did some shakedown laps yesterday with race fuel and my best was a 1'47'0

Ah je vais pas participer à mon avis. Le retour de force du mod deconne totalement et m'envoie des informations à la noix. Du coup la voiture est tout bonnement inconduisible. Pas top comparé au CART98

Ça doit venir de chez toi, parce qu'en dehors de quelques changements moteurs, pneus et aero, c'est un quasi copier/coller du CART 98, j'ai exactement le même retour de force avec les paramètres Realfeel du mod CART98.

Peut être avais tu ma version précédente du mod et qu'elle met le bazar avec la nouvelle ?

non non c'est collé sur la meme partition que j'avais faite specialement pour Mid Ohio. Et c'est l'horreur les coups de raquette que m'envoit le volant en ligne droite alors qeu je n'ai aucun feeling dans les virages

Retour de force inversé ça je pense. Suffit de passer la valeur de la puissance du retour de force du positif dans le négatif (ou inversement) dans les options du jeu.

C'etait effectivement cela. Tout fonctionne maintenant.
par contre elles m'ont l'air plus pointues à maitriser avec moins de grip les 94

My first impressions are that this cars seem even faster than the 98 ones. They feel like they run on a rail track, really impressive but the track takes a big part in this feeling. No room for mistakes here. My lap of 1:45 shows me that I still have a lot to learn... like the '98 one

A real dangerous one. Kathrin Legge and Brian Herta can't said the opposite as they both got scary crashes there

On est obligé d'être présent aux 2 séances de qualifs?
La 2e le samedi si y a pas de GTP je peux être présent, mais pas la 1ere le jeudi.
