Hello guys, I've been lurking the forums for a while, but couldn't really get my schedule straight to commit to any races. Seeing now that this 79 champ. is full..

@Guillaume: Looks like some of the teams won't be able to make it to the Buenos Aires race. Considering other members in line, and if the car owner's are cool with it, could I be able to fill in for one of the available teams. I've been racing classic mods for a long while, so I'm all about gentleman driving :hello:
I could show up tonight for qualifying for any one of the Ensign, Merzario or Kauhsen (last 2 preferred)

No prob you can come to qualifying tonight with one of these cars, and even race with it on Sunday Smile
You just have to know that once you will have made a lap with one car, you won't be allowed to switch to another car.

PostSubject: Re: Round 1 - Buenos Aires   Round 1 - Buenos Aires - Page 2 Icon_minitimeThu 14 Jan 2010 - 14:06

I'm just realising I've not do the presentation of the race. Well here it comes

Franckly, to be honnest, there's little chance I'll say something positive about that one. The track is definitively one of the worst I'll encournter of the season for two reasons.
The surronding is desert. It seems we're in a prison in the mid of Sahara. Nothing to get exited while driving very slow..no reason too then. It's quite a carceral atmosphere which prevails here.
The sketching is not amasing to. It reminds me of Hockenheim. The first part is a very fast one with two chicanes and one of the longuest corner of the year. First one (esses del Ciero) is a very fast one. Second (Ascari) is a slow one. A mistake in del Ciero will be a great one as it conditionned all the straights and the horribly fast corner of Salotto. If you do a error there, you're going to loose a lot of time and your best opportunities to overtake. Salotto is a damned corner. It overheates your tyres, making the car understeering. But nevertheless you must keep the throttle on to have a decent chance to overtake before Ascari.
Don't miss either Ascari as it will conditioned the second and last chance to overtake on the track. At Entrado at los Mixos (what a name for a corner...well for a hairpin), you'll got your last chance.
Afterwards, then come the "Stadium". As in Hockenheim, it's a twisty slow portion where it's suicidal to attempt any overtake. You're going from left to right all the time with short reacelleration possibilities. And a mistake there means almost surely spin... and massive lost of time.
And there is the difficulty of the track. Your car need to be both fast and nimble. But it can be both as the first part need low downforce and the second high. Setting up the car is then quite uneasy. And that's the only appeal that track has.

As last year we should see Tyrell in front. Alfa was greatly represented. That's shouldn't be the case. Ian can make the pole. But Stefan can't cope with the archfavourite for the year Arrows dreamteam (by the way the pilots page of the presentation is still the 2009 one Wink ). So what? Tyrell get the lead. Both pilots are really fast one. They could make all Tyrell podium for sure. So they are, for that race, archfavourite (English bookmakers get them 1 to 200 ) :D. Then will come Ian, the Arrows, the Wolf (always have an eye on Martin's skills) and finally the Ligier boys. Both can do great job..well Frank is accustomed to. That'll be a first for Carl.
All the other teams will have to wait. Podium is not likely to happen to them. By being in the top 6 must be their objectives...at least for the McLaren and Brabham. The others cars are too slow or managed by rookies (and F1 79 isn't east to cope with at Buenos Aires)

There will be an oddity in that race. Carlo Pozzi will be, for the first time, on a iron car. What will the revelation of the eve of the year do with his ATS?
