Offenhausers were qualifying with a hand tied on the back, i.e. only 80 inches of boost as per USAC rules in Qualy, limited by a sealed pop-off valve. On that boost the Foyt gave some 25 HP more - and it was a good chassis. Once in the race, boost was free and Offys could up it some more to be on par with the Foyt, though only as much as to be able to average 1.8 mpg because there was a total fuel cap of 280 litres for the whole race. Which we will be replicating also
I am sure that Austin or Dana would be well under 47 seconds with the Coyote, so keep digging Pascal

I saw that qualifying speed too! I looked it up on Wikipedia and I'm completely baffled that I'm under 0.2 mph slower than AJ Foyt on the 10-mile run! :O
It is AJ though. 2mph faster than 2nd and 4mph faster than 3rd.
I had a real bad third lap where I basically missed my line in 3 out of 4 corners. Wonder how fast I'd have been if I had hit all my marks..
Anyway, as requested by Mr. White, here's a lil video:

LITERS? You sure you don't mean gallons? (280 gal @ 500 miles = 1.78 mpg)

A hint for everybody when developing the race setup ... be sure you average 1.8 mpg - or you will not make it
That's 5,24 litres per lap unless I'm mistaken, and close to 29 laps per full tank.

It is not, but you can limit pit stops and DQ those who take more fuel than allowed. Race will be limited to 6 fuel pit stops, and whoever does more than that we will check the export to see if he loaded fuel. So you can always stop to repair damage or for new tires, but you will only be able to refuel 6 times.

We are simulating the fuel limits that USAC imposed at the time.

Ah okay, but wouldn't it be possible to calculate the entire fuel usage from the export files, not just the pitstops?

Jari is onto what I was thinking about. So I repeat the question:
Ah okay, but wouldn't it be possible to calculate the entire fuel usage from the export files, not just the pitstops? As in someone short fuels a couple times for whatever reason. (Granted, not an advantage, but still . . . . )
I think what Jari would like to know: Are we merely counting number of times refueled or gallons taken?

Number of times refuelled. That is the only way we can check through the XML's. It's basically the same method we used to calculate the WEC 82 series.

Then, since we can't reliably monitor fuel used, we should forego the limit. Just like we can't have cautions because we can't replicate the "pacer lights".
Likewise the 3-wide start! Or we'll be running this thing in July. Again.

Not true. The XML data includes fuel tank percentages, so one can monitor the amount of fuel taken on during a race.
BTW, as we have made clear several times now, the way the league is run is NOT up for debate in the public forum; if you have a point to raise in that regard, please do so via a PM.
