Hockenheim Track Question Empty
PostSubject: Hockenheim Track Question   Hockenheim Track Question Icon_minitimeMon 6 Jul 2009 - 1:02

I have just loaded the Hockenheim track that I downloaded from this web site into my "GTP\trackD" folder. Is the majority of the track supposed to be surrounded by high, dark walls on both sides of the track or have I done something wrong? I only ask because former versions of the Hockenheim track on which I have raced do not have these high, dark walls.

I have just joined H.S.O. as a result of having raced with some of your members at the VT Endurance 24 Hours of Le Mans event. My teammate (Dave Fiedler) and I look forward to racing with you in this series. See you at Hockenheim!

Mmmh this is kinda weird Rich...

My advise is that you delete all your Hockenheim folder(s) in the TrackD folder, and then reinstall it from our site. You shouldn't get this problem again.

BTW, here is a copy of the graphic enhancing topic you asked me about Smile

I did as you instructed, Antoine, and removed all Hockenheim tracks from my trackD folder and then installed both the track and the INI file that I downloaded from your site. The "walls" are still there. Below is a reduced image captured from the sim after exiting the pit road. The "walls" are on both sides of the track nearly all the way around the track. Are they supposed to be there? Do you see them when you load Hockenheim?

Hockenheim Track Question Hockenheimwalls

PS ... thank you for the memory config info. I will see if that sharpens up some of the images on other tracks.

My core.ini settings already matched those specified in this article.

Regarding the rend_dgx.ini modifications:

My graphic settings are 1680x1050x32bit (16:10 ratio wide screen) with a 512MB GeForce 8600GTS video card.

Please advise correct TextureSetSize= "????????" I cannot figure it out.

Thank you.

Mmhh actually these "walls" are a normal feat of this kinda ugly track. They're supposed to be trees ! At least it really gives you the impression to be right in the middle of the forest :D

Concerning the Texture size, I'd try that with your settings :
Quote :

Texture 32bit avec une carte 256Mb
1024x768= 255852544
1152x864= 252510208
1280x960= 248774656
1600x1200= 237715456

Make a backup of you file before just in case it wouldn't work. BTW, no need to calculate with 512Mb, it wouldn't work, 256 is the maximum Wink

The messages are made to look like they were made with a "Dymo" label maker, which embosses letters into a black ribbon of adhesive backed plastic. If you look at the dashboard of the Toyota GTP car, you will see that the gauges are labeled with embossed tapes like that. I simply made my own custom label tapes and applied them graphically to the dashboard.

To do this, I had to use a program called WinMip to open the Jagdash.mip file in the RDgtp folder and convert it to a TGA file, then modify the TGA file using a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, and then convert it back to a MIP file using WinMip. WinMip also allows you to adjust the "priority" of the MIP file. Increasing the "priority" of the MIP file makes your graphic rendering within the GTP sim give that file greater clarity.

I also modified the jagtach.mip and jagwater.mip files the same way, by converting them to TGA files, painting them and converting them back to MIP files. That is how I added the the yellow and red areas to those two gauges. I do this to all of the gauges I use in racing to make them easier to read at a quick glance while driving.

If you would like me to modify any gauges or the dashboard for you, just let me know which chassis and what changes you would like to see and I would be happy to do it for you. I can also modify trackside billboards and other graphics in much the same way if you would ever like any modifications to those.

Thank you very much, Antoine. Those settings cleared up all of my GTP graphics problems both in the car and with the Hockenheim and Sebring tracks. Two years studying French about 45 years ago was enough to get me through the instructions.

Antoine. I have another version of Hockenheim which I have raced on in a Trans-Am series in the PTA mod. It is essentially the same layout except with much better graphics and even the distance markers (panneau de distance ?) that Phillipe would like to see. Would you like for me to e-mail it to you? It would be about an 8MB attachment. It really is a far better looking track than the one you have linked on your site.

My French is very, very bad but here is the best I can offer as far as a translation is concerned:

J'ai une autre version de Hockenheim que j'ai emballée dessus dans Trans-Am série dans le mod de PTA. C'est essentiellement la même disposition excepté avec des graphiques bien meilleurs et même les marqueurs de distance (panneau de distance ?) ce Phillipe voudrait voir. l'aimez-vous pour moi à l'email à vous ? Il serait au sujet d'un attachement 8MB. C'est vraiment une voie de regard bien meilleure que celle vous ont lié sur votre emplacement.

Sure do, Guy!! It's called "practice, practice, practice" and I'll be glad to give you some in exchange for advance notice whenever FSB is going to have their GTP server open for Hockenheim practice. I hate practicing against AI or ghosts!!

Thanks for making your server available for Hockenheim practice.

1) What time(s) of day or night am I most likely to find others practicing on your server? Running there alone is no different than running on my hard drive alone. Practice in traffic is valuable.

2) What days/nights/times is the server not available due to other races/practices?

Thanks!

Our server is up permanently, save for a few Mondays over the year, the list of which you will find here Wink .

About people on the server, the fact that part of the field is stateside and the other in Europe doesn't help re meeting each other on the serveur I guess Sad ... But maybe we can try and determine a few dates & times where we could try and do some collective training ?

Thanks for the nice Hockenheim version btw :top: !

I don't care whether it's stateside drivers or European ones ... day or night. Just looking for a time when there might be some others on the server practicing so that I can get to know some of the other drivers' driving styles, etc. as well as practicing in traffic.

Thanks!

PostSubject: Re: Hockenheim Track Question   Hockenheim Track Question Icon_minitimeThu 6 Aug 2009 - 1:23

I understand. You Europeans get a nice, long holiday every summer. The only people that get that in the USA are teachers! They are off for almost 3 months. I have been out of work since late February when my job was eliminated due to the economic conditions. The job market is bad enough. Then you add in the age factor (I'm 60) and that makes it even tougher.

I wish I could wait until 10 days before a race to start practicing. I absolutely love road racing. But I'm not a natural born racer. I need to practice and practice and practice until the track becomes second nature and as familiar as the drive to the local grocery store. Than I have hopes of competing. So I started practicing for this race (and the Sebring race at VTE) within days of the end of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at VTE. Of course, I'm piloting a Toyota at VTE and a Jaguar here, which are both terribly fast monsters but handle considerably differently. So I'll be practicing plenty in preparation for both races.

Hope to see you on the track when your summer vacation is complete. Enjoy!!
