watching for Carl's (missed) attempts to get back on me was my only challenge

One of the best races of my life :O . The first 15 laps with Steve were just one of the greatest battles I ever had <3 . Awful end to it tho as Steve and I crashed on the second to last lap at Clubhouse. Steve's tyres were shot I guess and he was insanely slow entering the turns... Wasn't even trying to pass but I could not avoid contact so all my apologies mate Sad .

Seeing the replay I guess the unfortunate 77th lap crash is more my fault than Steve's Crying or Very sad Neutral Sad ... Really sorry again mate, really a dreadful end to an awesome race Sad . Wanted to wait but you seemed to have a lot of damage and Kimmo was catching fast... Went my way and wanted to wait before the s/f line but checking the lcd I saw Kimmo had passed you anyway which made me spin... in the very last turn... and both of you went by...

hi guys,

firslty i would like to thank HSO and its member for letting me race. Was very cool to see 25 starters, and it made for an action packed race.

Well, what can i say, starting from 24th and looking at the tight grid i was thinking "this is going to be impossible". I was very cautious at the start, trying to judge everyone as we all weaved for position. T1 was interesting and i clipped a ligier that had spun in front of me, but got away with very little damage. From there it was full attack, and i had an amzing battle with many many drivers including, Carlo Pozzi, Gregoire Goissen, Roman Koranda and kimmo. The fight i had with Kimmo, was insane, i was on the absolute limit of the car, and after he passed me i drove at 110% to stay with him, i did my best but eventually he pulled away about 0.3 per lap. "grip the road, come on come on, faster faster" hehehehheh. I was very pleased to get the lap times i was and did my best. it was very hard work.

Thanks for all your kind words after the race.
A big congratulations to the top 3. Well done Kimmo for the win.

See you soon i hope. If you let me drive here again. Smile

A bientôt j'espère. Si vous me laisser conduire là encore. Smile

Pretty satisfied with 5th, was really the max i could achieve yesterday :top:
I did a faultless race, had some good battles with Roman firstly and then with the alien of the aliens Ian , who was really flying in the Fitti  , my tyres went off at midrace and i wasn't getting any front grip, so my only task was to manage the gap with Greg and Roman in the final laps Wink

See you at Long Beach, finally a good track for the Arrows cheers

Round 3 - Kyalami - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Round 3 - Kyalami   Round 3 - Kyalami - Page 4 Icon_minitimeMon 28 Feb 2011 - 14:35

I am chuffed. I finished a race in the beginning of the season. Well I've got a proper Ferrari now, so when in Rome...

So this particular finish was my first victory! cheers

My start was a fairly slow one. I'm used to get away a bit quicker than many, but I had to use a really tall 1st gear so that I could space the others evenly. Ferrari is a bloody quick car, and it revs a lot. Which means not so much low end poke. So only 5 gears to play with, I had to use 1st for other things than just get the car rolling.

So lost a few spots, but was helped by the massive start lag Roman had. His car didn't appear to move at all, and all of a sudden it warped to the end of the straight. Poor Carl was stuck behind a car that appeared to be stationary, but in fact it was long gone. I was curious to why there wasn't more traffic in T1 so I had a look at the replay.

Anyhow, the first lap was eventless which is good, and saying a little about this league and the drivers in it. On the beginning of the 2nd lap I see Pierre's even quicker Brabham steaming up from behind. So that's how it felt for everyone to see my Renault come from behind, in the past seasons... affraid

I see Pierre move out for an overtaking attempt (mate, there's still 77 laps to go) I guessed he goosed it, braked a bit too late. Had a serious tow from me so I guess the top speed was a bit higher than usual. But I guess no one likes to be stuck behind me... Too bad that you were damaged though. You avoided me, thanks for that, but Steve I guess could do nothing to avoid you. Sad I hate seeing people drop out of a race that early.

So I settle down in 3rd, behind Tiago and Frank, Steve behind. Soon enough I see Frank has spun and I overtake him. Steve is now battling with Frank and I know I have to drive hard to get a cushion. I know the lads behind me don't really hang about but I also know there will be plenty of contact between them, behind me, so if only I can push hard, I should be able to get away for a while. Plan worked, and as I have settled down at a steady speed, it takes them a while before they catch me.

So eventually they do, Steve first and Frank close behind. I go a little wide, and lose a bit of speed in T1 and Steve slips by. Frank tries to go for a gap that isn't really there and he gets me going again. Eventually Frank gets by as well, but we both spin. I am facing the wrong direction in the hairpin and when I go for a turn, gap showing I should have time, Thomas comes from behind the wall. Nice braking there Thomas! Sorry if I scared you but I thought I had more time. Ian flies by, and almost Carlo as well. So when I am behind Ian, I think "Wait a minute, it says Copersucar on that wing, what the fu???" And it's doing 300+ down the straight!!! So we battle for a while, both really on the ragged edge, but very clean. There was a brief moment of worry on the front straight, over the bump when Ian's unwinged (I assume) Copersucka gets a little sideways at the same ass I do, and I am just about to go by. No worries though. I get by and I try my damnest to get rid of that crap car. Doesn't he know it sucks? No, he hangs in there, in the tow, neatly tucked in behind all the way for several laps. Eventually I get a bit of a gap and I don't have to share the air resistance anymore. Later I catch Tiago building sandcastles (mate, I too wish it was summer already), in T1, and overtake him. I know there is no way I can keep Tiago behind for long, so I just don't put up much of a fight. I was hoping Tiago could pull me around for a few laps and help me pick up my pace. He did and I am lapping in the 10's now. I overtake Tiago on the long straight when I get a good oppurtunity but I guess I didn't have enough speed to make a pass that sticks, so Tiago could try to overtake me back into T1. Maybe our joint speed was way too high for that, so there's slight contact between us. No problem for me, but I see Tiago spun again. Sad I had to turn in mate, or I would be building sandcastles as well.

So now I am in a safe 3rd place, Frank some 12 seconds in front of me. Steve still in the lead. I am going hard now, lapping low 10's pretty consistently. A lap from the end things start to get bad for the leaders. I see from my splits they are close to eachother and I guessed what could happen this close to the end. Sure enough I can pass a limping Steve after the hairpin, and Frank isn't that far in front of me. I see the gap shrinking for every turn, hoping the last lap message was a joke, I need another lap. But then exiting the 2nd to last corner, if the flat out right on the straight counts, I see Frank's Ligier sideways in the middle of a cloud of smoke.

Woo-hoo! Victory is mine! I couldn't believe my luck. I couldn't believe it, not until I saw the final results!

I was happy to see Steve finish 2nd, :second: though this was your race. Frank, still 3rd, :third: not bad considering it could have been a DNF with that much drama. Well done bringing it to the finish.

Ian, you madman. I really hope you'll get a seat for the rest of the season. Christ, the speed you had in that.... makes one very humble.

Anyway, a full 15 points for Ferrari, and if I understand things correctly, it's a first in the hitory of HSO? Well done all finishers! You'd think Kyalami is an easy track because it's fast and short, but it is nothing but very difficult.

On to Long Beach, where ground effect and horsepower makes very little difference, so anything can happen. I'd like to flag about Ian in the Suckycopperthing, if he gets the seat a little sooner this time so he can qualify. Carlo and Pierre will be very dangerous, as well as Tiago, Greg and just about anyone else with a car that makes the start, so I am not holding my breath.

I have 3 weeks to live up here among the great ones, :champ: deserved or not, but it's 3 weeks of fame and glory, until next round when things will go back to the usual. :hum:

I overtake Tiago on the long straight when I get a good oppurtunity but I guess I didn't have enough speed to make a pass that sticks, so Tiago could try to overtake me back into T1. Maybe our joint speed was way too high for that, so there's slight contact between us. No problem for me, but I see Tiago spun again. Sad I had to turn in mate, or I would be building sandcastles as well.

t was my fault m8, after the situation with Steve which surprised me (thought the Ferrari would brake better) I antecipated that move (quite an optimistic one) and tried to slip into the inside line during braking, but then when you pulled in too I knew there was nothing I could do expect trying to avoid you, so I went sand building again lol!

Totally my fault m8 Wink

Hey, it was ok for me, I recieved no damage at all. I didn't even spin. A little sideways, that's all.

But, I hated to see you pull out of the race, that late in the race it sucks so much... Sad
