1960 Indianapolis 500 - The Race

Date & Time

Sunday June 6th, 20:00 (CET)

19:00 - Free practice
19:45 - Briefing
20:00 - Race start

Server Password hso60

Starting Procedure

Ideally we would have liked to have the traditionnal Indy 500 start, complete with pace laps and flying start behind the pace-car, and with a 3-3-3 grid formation. However the restrictions in rFactor have forced us to tweak things a little.

We will thus have a 2-2-2 grid formation as shown on the grid preview .

The start will be a rolling one but we will not use the pace-car (which is too fast for the slow starting Gasoline Alley cars). The race will therefore be configured with a "standing start with no formation lap" as per the game's rules.

- at the green light given by rFactor, each car starts slowly and carefully

- the pace is given by the poleman, but at a maximum speed of 175 km/h (should be bottom of 2nd gear)

- this first lap is therefore our formation lap, and you must be extra careful during it : keep your line, do not accelerate or brake brutally. A crash in the formation lap could bring a restart of the all procedure, which will however be preceeded by a review of the incident by the admins who can decide to ban from the race any driver(s) involved in the said crash.

- the real start will be given at the end of this formation lap, when an admin will type "GREEN GREEN GREEN" in the chat. It is therefore crucial you switched on the in-car chat option in your rFactor settings. This can be done by modifying the following line in the multiplayer.ini file located in your player’s folder :

Allow Chat In Car="1"

In-Car Mirrors

As the period cars did not have mirrors, the Gasoline Alley cars do not have them on with the cockpit driving view. You can activate them by changing the following line in the yourplayername.plr file located in your player’s folder :

Virtual Rearview In Cockpit="1"

Pitstops

Depending on how hard you are on your tires, you will have to do between 3 and 5 pitstops over the race. Pitstops are a very delicate manoeuvre with the Indy roadsters as 1) the brakes are virtually non-existent 2) there is no pit speed limit.
You are required to be extra careful during your time in the pit. Depending on where your pit stall is (see below) you will thus be allowed to drive in the pits at great speed. Make sure you stay on the far right of the pitlane as long as possible. Do not to slow down too brutally, mind the other cars in pitlane, try not to overshoot your pit stall.

As we are starting the race from the track, you will have no clue as where your pit stall is located on the pitlane. One way to know is to assign a button on your wheel (or key on your keyboard) to the "call pitstop" option in rFactor. Calling the pitstop this way will highlight the red square of your pit stall in the pits, just as you usually get to see it once you have entered the pitlane.

Remember that as there is no pit speed limit, so you need to know where you pit stall is... or you might lose a lot of time on your first pitstop. Also remember the cars handle very oddly at reduced speed, so make sure you have trained your pitstop sequence before race day.

Pit entry will be made from after turn 4 (exit of the last turn, i.e. when entering the main straight). You have the right to bite on the grass at the entry of the pits, but remember you are required to have at least 2 wheels on the (asphalt) track at every moment.
Pit outs will be done as prudently as possible. There was no inner lane in the turns in 1960 and the pit exit opens on the entry to turn 1. So please be extra careful when you pit out : don't enter T1 too fast and don't go wide up the turn. Do not try either to drive on the left side of the white line at the apex - that will most likely make you spin out. Just stick to the apex while accelerating progressively and mind your mirrors Smile .

Behaviour on track

We expect the participating drivers to stick to the unwritten sportsmanship etiquette of the gentleman driver's spirit Smile. Flagrant and/or repeated infringements to this code (as juged by HSO admins) will result in the driver being banned from the final standings of the race and/or from competing in further HSO Open events. Unacceptable manoeuvres such as dangerous blocking of your opponents, ignoring the blue flags when being lapped, or causing avoidable crashes will be particularly reviewed by the admins.

As said earlier, the forgiving damage level on the Gasoline Alley cars calls for toughtful and fair driving in case of an accident. When involved in a crash, you are required to press the 'escape' key as soon as you realise your car is damaged beyond repair - for instance if your engine died or if you lost more than one wheel. This can be done even before your car came to a complete stop. In the eventuality of repairable damage, you must be as prudent as possible when bringing you car back to the pits. As most crashes in Indianapolis will leave you against the outside retaining wall, make sure the track behind you is clear before crossing back to the left of the track. When there stick to the extreme left of the track, using the inside pit road lane in the turns.

Inconsiderate behaviour in the case of an accident recovery will be the most critically point of behaviour observed by the admins and the one leading to the most severe sanctions.

Good race to you all cheers !
:frank:

Version Française

Date & Heure

Dimanche 6 juin, 20h00 (heure de Paris)

19:00 - Essais libres
19:45 - Briefing
20:00 - Départ de la course

Pass Serveur hso60

Allow Chat In Car="1"

Virtual Rearview In Cockpit="1"

Désolé, je me suis vraiment déconcentré !

:smil20:

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My life sucks.............. How coincident can it be to be adjusting my fuel setup and when looking ahead of me I see Steinmetz dodging to the left side and I say to myself.......... "please God, don't.........." That's why I'm not Catholic.....

1st stint was terrible.... the car wouldn't go, lost so much time....
2nd was being a lot better but still a minor adjustment has to be made, until I was doing it on lap 78..... bang, dead.

Not your fault JF, if I only postponed my strategy for a lap, nothing would've happened. Sorry

Dsl Franky.
