PostSubject: Anyone running Nvidia?   Mon 19 Nov 2018 - 12:15

Is anyone here running an Nvidia as GPU?

My GPU needs to be upgraded by the end of the year and both Tom's and Eurogamer seem to point towards Nvidia as best GPU currently.

For some reason, I have always used ATI Radeon's in my race PC's and my experience with Nvidia's, mainly in game laptops, is not fantastic. I also seem to remember that GPL did not really like Nvidia's, and neither did rFactor in the early days?

Hence my question: are any of you running Nvidia's and if so, are you satisfied with them?

Thanks in advance,

Timo

I am using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and I am totally satisfied with it.

GTX950 here and works very well. No issues with rFactor, AMS, and can even play GPL and older games.

Running Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB on Windows 10 Home, 64 bit.
I've never had a problem with it and it runs all the sims ok.

I run MSI GTX 970 for 3 or 4 yeas. No problems at all, both framerates and stability is very good.
Best regards, Czarek.

Gigabyte G1 series 1050ti here.

On single 27" monitor at 1080 res, it easily does what is required of it in all the sims.
I'm more than satisfied with it, and was quite a jump from a 2gb GTX 660.

If you happen to sway in the 1050ti direction, look at the G1 series from Gigabyte. The only 1050ti out there with metal backplate. (It's not a huge thing, but makes handling the card much easier if/when it needs to be messed with, plus it looks great inside the case :antoine: )
Also has a few other features some of/most of the other 1050ti's doesn't....and clocks higher than any of them (actually, even clocks quite a bit higher than the manufacturer claims it will)

Thanks for the feed-back guys. Based on the above will most probably go for an Nvidia.

Any recommendation as to manufacturer: Asus, MSI, Gigabyte...?

Timo

1050ti here, 4GB, I think it is G1 (it is Gigabyite).

It was my choice becose of several monitor outputs. Im curently using 3 monitors, and it works great with
SofTH multiscreen support software.
And that is acctualy the main complaint about nVidia, it supports only same resolution monitors through generic software, if you have different sizes (like myself) you have to use third party support, such as SofTH.
I think that ATI is more supportive in this matter with its Eyefinnity (if Im correct) platform.

however, nVidia with this SofTH works great, and of corse other games on single monitor too..

You 1060 owners mind if I ask the frame rate your getting with triple screens in AMS? Full eye candy I mean everything maxed out. I'm looking to get a graphics card and a new ultra wide monitor or maybe 3. I don't know if anyone has seen Remco Hitmans setup but I'm seriously thinking about investing some time and money into a Super FOV setup with a projector instead, Any advice or criticism all is welcome just looking for more immersive experience.

This is what I'm talking about if you haven't seen it but I'm sure most of you have.

I had several ATI and Nvidia. My personal opinion is you can't go wrong with Nvidia. You may go right with ATI.
BTW, my current card is an ATI R9 390. I gave ATI a chance but it reminds me my 2005 Radeon X1900 XT, it is very loud!!!!! It is still steps behind Nvidia.

I am using an ATI RX 56, but I can confirm that AMS runs beautifully at 60+ fps with close to full detail in 1080p on a Nvidia 1050 Ti.

PostSubject: Re: Anyone running Nvidia?   Thu 27 Dec 2018 - 15:25

AMS will easily run maxed out on 1050Ti (on single monitor @ 1080p)
But I've already been in this thread, so I think I added that before.

However, I have discovered something I hadn't dug into before now and it has changed AMS in a way that makes me go "WOW"!

DSR...Dynamic Super Resolution.

With this, I am able to upscale to 4k, then downscale back to native res.
With DSR factors enabled, I can completely turn off the AA in AMS and it STILL looks x10 fold better than it did before I was using DSR.
And, the performance hit that comes along with rendering in 4k (it's actually slightly heavier because after rendering at 4k it has to downscale...but it's not by much) is negated by my turning off the massive amount of AA I was using in AMS (like 8x MS and a bunch of SGSS, which is a huge hit)

I'm capped at 60fps with vsync.
Took the Brazilian stock cars out to stress test...32 AI, plus myself.  All AMS settings maxed out, DSR factors on (so rendering in 4k)....not even a hiccup at the start  Wink

https://cmsracing.com/champion/forums/showthread.php?33708-DSR-A-bread-crumb-for-those-that-seek-a-bit-of-eye-candy-in-AMS]I created a bit of a thread on it here.

...if anyone is interested.
It's not a guide book, just a get them started sort of deal.  No intention in spelling it all out to anyone, only intended to provide a lead.

I highly recommend looking into using DSR with AMS (it just so happens to work best in older game engines, DX9, etc).....the clarity of image and the elimination of a few things that always bugged me in the sim, have been an eye opener for me.

...now, if I could just get the DSR stuff to work correctly in rF2, I'd be doing better.
Been no joy, thus far though...

Just have to live with the link. I tried to do it the nice and tidy way, screwed it up. Now having issues with it.
Blah...stuff to do and no time to fix it.

Wow thanks for the info Jason. I didn't think I 1050 would be able to handle it. I might opt for a 1060 just for overhead.

Alot also depends on what cpu you have, bad cpu + good gpu = bad fps and vice versa,i am on ati myself and get 250 fps + in AMS on max settings, another thing with nvidia in rfactor was to set the frames rendered ahead to 1 rather than default 2 :top:

What Steve said. :hello:

And also dependent on which 1050. The Ti is 4GB vRAM. Clocks fairly high too, stably.
Some 1060s are only 3GB. The 6GB 1060 would give a bunch of overhead in AMS, surely. (On single monitor @60hz. < all that is very important too.

AMS isn't very CPU heavy, if your CPU gets decent single core speeds.
For these sims most widely used (AMS, rF1/2, AC)......they rely on that single core speed, a lot.

Well the cpu is a i7 2600 and my gpu is a r9 280x I get decent FPS 200 with shadows on low and 4x AA. Frames drop at the start to like 80. I want everything on max with a full field .

When you have rFactor or AMS running open your task manager/details tab/right click on rfactor exe/click set affinity/then click on all cores :D Then it will use all the cpu cores :top:

I think AMS is already optimized to do so. rF1, different story.
It's still single core speed dependent though, to a large degree, from my understanding.
There's also reason for it, and it runs better that way (single core)...

It's efficient enough, but single core wise, it's not the highest scoring single core speed processor.
In comparison, my lowly G4600 has a slightly higher single core speed.

Anyways, I don't have problems in the sims and I always observe things in afterburner.
AMS doesn't even take a bite of my CPU. That won't end up being the problem in AMS with most modern and/or decent CPUs (a lot of older gen stuff easily pushes today's sims)

So you just run your gpu wide open?
No capped framerate, no vsync solution or otherwise?

You get any screen tearing effects like that?
Stuttering from significant framerate fluctuations at times?

I have it wide open. when I cap it it seems to dip And stutter and tear more than when I have it uncapped.

So the next question. Would a 1060 be efficient enough for Samsung's Chg90 ultra wide on full settings. I'm talking only on AMS and rfactor. I want a projector but I'm thinking the picture quality might not be the best, I've never seen it first hand so I'm stuck in between right now. :hum:

To be honest Austin for same price a Radeon rx580 or the rx590 would perform better than nvidia 1060 :top:
