PostSubject: Carburetion Day [May 19th]   Mon 14 May 2018 - 22:32

"Carburetion Day"

"Carburetion Day" is the name of the last official practice before the Indy 500. The name originally came from the fact that it was the final session where teams could tune their carburetors in conditions similar to those that might be encountered on race day. The name has remained despite the fact that no qualified car has used a carburetor since 1963.

Our own official "Carburetion Day" will take place on Saturday, the 19th of may and will consist of driving in traffic, practicing the three-wide rolling start behind the pace car, and a 28-lap practice race (A full stint of the Sunday race). Attendance is not required, but we strongly encourage everyone to attend -- especially those who have never started a 500 mile race before, or have never started three-wide before -- or both.  This will be an invaluable opportunity to prepare for Sunday's race and maybe get some mistakes out of the way before the real thing. Please be aware that the aerodynamic effects of driving with more cars around you are quite important, causing understeer when you follow another car as well as oversteer when there is another close behind you. This has to be taken into account both in the setup and the driving.

There will also be an additional informal practice day on Wednesday with the same program, aimed at facilitating people more opportunities of practicing driving under real traffic conditions.

Schedule (all times given are Paris time):

Wednesday May 16th

20:00 - Free Practice

21:00 - Warmup
21:10 - Race (Grid used will be the official one from the may 13th qualy)

Saturday May 19th

20:00 - Free Practice

21:00 - Warmup
21:10 - Race (Grid used will be the official one from the may 13th qualy)

Everyone should make sure that they can ESC out of the game without the "esc to monitor" menu coming up.  This will be required on race day in order to avoid chain reaction accidents if you yourself have a race-ending accident.

For those looking for it, it's this line in your PLR file:

Code:
Exit Confirmation="0" // 0=none, 1=race only, 2=always

Alberto,

have the impression that for some reason pm's are stuck in my outbox.

Just to let you know: I installed the mod and track and did some laps online. All works well.

Confirmed for tonight and awaiting your final instructions Very Happy .

Anyway Timo, you just need to be there for the warmup. Grid will place you in front of all the cars. When the green light is given, you just start the first lap at 100 MPH staying on the centre of the track, go past the start line for the 2nd lap, and after turn 2 in the backstretch an admin will ask the field to form three wide. You don't have to do anything, just keep running at the centre through turns 3 and 4, and then dive for the pits. Once you are at pint entry or thereabouts, you type GREEN FLAG in the chat to give us the race start. You can map that to a quick chat key, that is the optimal thing as you just hit that knob when you go past pit entry.
