I was little disapointed today, Jason, only racing icident, is is OK, the funny is that the car was in some point better in some corners but then when i try overtake Raul which was in some places slower than me and he costed me more than 1s per lap i braked behind him harder to avoid problems and lost control and cripled car much more by hitting wall, wasted 600s in pits then Sad

after my return Raul again cost me aprox 2s per lap , and lost too much time and then i must more often let lapping cars came over me so i probaly lost one position to disconected Martin (

Micahl, I saw you saying I hold you, just wanted to appologise if that was the case.. It was not on purpose, nor I was aware of that..

I was dead slow, and really struggling with the car, so unless you were really faster than me, you could safely overtake me only on straight.. other parts of the track I was a threat to all..

And I let all the cars pass me with no fighting too.. no reason to, since I was among slowest on track..

Again, my appologies if I did something wrong. scratch

Couldn't we have tested that beforehand? Sad

1. As you said, track is absolute shite.
2. On the formation lap, it told to stay behind Yves even though it was Martin. David didn't even get such a message and went to the end of the field to avoid a penalty.
3. Shesh guys, you don't win the race at T1. But I lost mine. Thanks A LOT.
4. Yep, those pit boxes. I had to repair for 300s and Ryan had the same pit stall as mine. He blew his engine waiting.

When he escaped, his car bumped into mine on the grid spot.  For the two other stops, I had to nudge his car out of the way and risk damage. GREAT.

5. Before you ask: I had slight problems with the rear end after repairing. When I was lapped, I tried to wait to the best opportunity(a wide straight) to let people pass as I didn't want to throw my car into theirs.

Really disappointed, even with 7th place. Could've fought for P5 I guess, but my competitive race was over at T1 when my steering got damaged and I had to repair it.

This track was strange indeed:

Little tap with the wall and all gone with 3 laps to go scratch  Went down from 4th to 5th.

I was involved in that start collision. I kept it calm at turn 1, but was pushed from behind (cracked rear suspension), and was collected another time :bangry:

I'm so, SO happy! I felt horribly the last few days, Saturday was probably the worst, as i had fever, i was dizzy and i didn't last for more than half an hour without running to bathroom. I wasn't sure if i'll even start today. But i feel better today and i just couldn't let it slip away, as i simply love Indycar. Driving a Penske was just an icing on the cake. One thing is clear - i should have given it more time and attention, as i didn't bother with setup, i simply drove the factory one, as it felt decent. A little loose, but it was fun. P4 at the start was decent enough, although i could do a little better. I started with a conservative strategy, two stops, boost1 and some fuel saving i've learnt from Scott Dixon Wink But it was clear, that i had no chance to beat Jacob with this strategy. So with half way to go, i turned the boost to 4 and switched to full attack. In the end it was not enough, as Jacob had it fully covered, but i enjoyed this chase like never before. Driving Indycars is a pure pleasure, the car does exactly what i want and i love every second of it. Can't wait for more.

Hats off, Jacob, that was one amazing drive

This was really a race to cherish. Not often that you get in the zone like that. So, so happy.

I felt very comfortable with the car and its pace from early on in practice, but I never imagined being able to qualify on pole and to control the race. My first regular season pole position! And when the race started, I happily let Grant lead the first few laps while I found my rhythm. Unfortunately, he went out of contention early on, so we wouldn't dice all race, but at that moment I hadn't noticed how quick Petr was.

Petr kept me honest all race, and after I'd had two minor half spins, one which damaged my left rear slightly, he was all over for most of the race, getting within 2 seconds at times. But my pit stops were faster, so when all stops had been made he was 11 seconds behind, which was when I felt comfortable enough to take it easy the rest of the race. Even if he had gotten close to me, I think I could have fended him off, since I never went higher than 2 on the boost (except on the long straight at times).

In all, this was probably my best race weekend ever at HSO. Just so, so happy with the setup, the car, the qualifying and the racing! Thanks all!

Tracks are tested by us beforehand (And this track had been used with no problems in the CART98 season IIRC scratch ) but a test with the full field is obviously not possible as general rule. We did it for Indy when big problems arose, but we can't do that preventively for each race.

Btw: Weren't you guys wondering why we had a second formation lap? I am not sure if rF also got confused by itself telling drivers to stay behind a different car or not indication at all Shocked

TBH, maybe a re-start without a second lap would've been more ideal, I had the feeling people lost their concentration after the second lap Sad

Too bad, started to like the track and racing on it after a few laps, but I was already 5 laps down and just playing the waiting game. In the end, I even went 8 laps down.

At least I finished the race, like Michal behind me.

Correct, it was. I didn't recall any complaints about it.  Next time an IDT track comes our way, we will look at it like this Suspect

Nothing to do with that, it was because Jacob was too far in front of the safety car. That's why i told him to slow down next time around.

Well, sorry, I didn't take part in that race so I wouldn't know...

So nobody noticed the formation procedure glitched again, apart from us two Davids?

Speaking of David: Not sure if we'll see him again in CART this season. Sounded like had an incident with a backmarker Crying or Very sad

Depends. Some have probably gone straight to bed before posting here.

Or are you two secretly into the fortune teller business and have some psychic powers? :hum: lol!

PostSubject: Re: Round 8 - Toronto Indy Grand Prix [Sep 3rd]   Mon 4 Sep 2017 - 8:25

A really poorly executed track, dating from F1 Challenge standards Rolling Eyes and well different from the nicely done Burke Lakefront Airport. I guess IDT had different people doing tracks, some were good, some not as much.

Anyway, short race for me as coming out of turn 1 after the start hugging the inside safely I had a car on my left and found Richard Wilks crossed in my trajectory after his spin, so not much I could do except slowing down. Lost front wing and bent front suspension in the shunt, went for repairs but the front suspension was not completely fixed, which made me spin some laps later and hit the wall again. With an undriveable car it made no sense to be a danger on track, so I quit.

Fortunately we are coming to the nicest part of the calender track wise, Mid Ohio, Elkhart, Laguna, Pocono ... Cool Looking forward to those races :frank:

Wow, the race lasted nearly for two hours affraid I didn't even notice, it was very intense and so much fun!

Btw, how much downforce did you guys use? My car was a rocketship at the main straight, I was 10-20kph faster than anybody else. I guess you had more aero than 35/39 on my factory set...?

Any calculation how many yellows/pace-cars we avoided?

41/45 for me. But I had not really dedicated a lot of time to the setup, and I could have done a 1.05 dead if I had been able to put together the perfect lap in qualy.

39/39 for me. Was typically 10kph faster than Grant on the same boost levels. I figure he used a lot of boost when he passed me on lap 2.

I guess we saved 30-40 minutes on no yellows here.

36/40 wings.
I couldn't get a feeling for the car in qualifying and ended up 1:06.5 half a second off my best in testing which I thought that I could go faster than. Still quite happy to be mid field.
At the start of the race I somehow managed to avoid the turn 1 crash and I was running about 8th and closing on the cars in front until I clipped the inside of the hairpin and had a half spin. Three cars went by but I seemed to be faster than them and got back past them only for me then to hit the wall quite hard losing the front wing which meant making a pitstop. Decided not to fix the damage (which was a mistake) and the steering was not straight due to suspension damage. I thought that I would just cruse around to the finish but a big hit into the pitwall exiting the final turn ended my race.

Congratulations to Jacob :champ: proving the 88C can win on street courses.
Well done to all of the finishers.
