Well, what a Wednesday evening.
Got taken out by Ray on the (unplanned) recon lap at Spa, basically a DNS for me.
Monza? I spun in Lesmo 1. Why? Probably too much throttle combined with some suspension damage from an earlier incident. With Ray.
So I spin and unfortunately, come to a stop sideways right in front of John Cook's car. Well, that was a textbook T-Bone.. Sorry, mate. Didn't intend to take you out too.

So ye, nice evening.
Not gonna drive the USF2000, never liked those cars. Be back on Saturday.

BTW, just noticed your PFP, Richard. Lol'd hard at the Leyland sponsorship on the side of that Williams considering their "success" with the L-60 engine on the Chieftain MBT's Laughing

People need to calm down at starts, especially when it is wet! It's the basics.

Server is up for race 3.

If there is no interest in these modern cars, we will do 3 races with the Historic cars come Saturday.

Loved the F3 races! F2000 cars were fun too, but had never tried those, or NOLA, before, so I was a fish out of water, so gave up after a spin and a huge flat-spot.

About those F3 races, old Spa really is the greatest race track there ever was. Even in a low-powered car like this that can theoretically go flat out from Les Combes to Blanchimont, every corner is such an intense challenge. It was fun racing Jan and Josh there while it lasted, and even though this was an "unofficial" race, I'm proud to have won HSO's first rF2 race!

:champ:

Monza was fun too, though the starts were very frustrating. I realized that I was the villain in the first melee, so I lowered my first two gears, which I later realized ruined my drive out of the first Lesmo and the Parabolica! When we finally got racing, my battle with Jan was again intense, so not having a good ratio for 2nd and 3rd limited my chances against. In the end, both of us made enough weird mistakes to start the final lap side-by-side.

Down from the Lesmos, I didn't want him to be able to have a run on me down to the Parabolica, so I let off the throttle early on so would be able to get a run instead. But he saw what I was doing, so he also let off the throttle! So what happened was that the two leader drove half a straight on half throttle, less than half a lap to go of the race! As we were side-by-side, non of us got a run on each other, but I had the inside line, which is what I wanted. From there on, I got the run I wanted out of the Parabolica and could just keep the lead over the line. That was fun one, thanks for that, Jan.

:rigol: :langue: :first:

I MIGHT join again on Saturday, we'll see.

No worries Ray, i'm not blaming you for that. After all, those were *fun* races.

Ok, learned a lot today - so Server Settings should be better on Saturday Evening.  study

Also Random Weather wasn't the best idea, at least for Monza. I think at Spa it looked amazing and was good to drive in the spray. Monza was a disaster for the start.

Then my first laps on the NOLA track and first laps with that USF2000 cars. Really nice to drive, had a lot of fun.

Perhaps we can change one or two tracks for Saturday, historic Monaco is amazing on rF2, but then we should do a rolling start.

Big thanks to all the guys who joined us tonight - 14 drivers were more than expected!!! :top:
Sorry for Michal, that your races went so wrong each time. :smil20:

Spa

Monza

NOLA

See you all next time!

Thanks for the competition.

Spa: patience was a virtue

Brianza: I was hit on every restart! Patience was needed, stay in line don't go where you can't see! Repairs were like 146 seconds. I had a gearbox for the banks, which wasn't right.

Nola: Just forgot to take the quali tape off!  And the pit crew wouldn't do it!!! They were apparently busy eating ice cream.

Racing was still fun.

Stephen

When are you guys going to get Dave to finish the 1969 F5000 mod?

As for rFactor 2 as a league platform, I think it is terrific. Of course, it is a bit odd that the "rain" didn't affect the grip levels, but the driving experience is far superior to anything else. There is no more immersive racing experience. The game feels more alive than anything else. That you can flat-spot the tires and the dry weather road build-up makes for a much more dynamic racing experience, even if the effects are subtle. But the subtleness makes the racing a much richer experience in rF2, so I think it is well worth exploring possibilities in having "official" racing in rF2.

It is just that that there's so few good historic mods for it. There's a 1967 F2 mod in the works, and a 1971-1972 NASCAR Cup mod available, albeit with "LE" physics.
