I was at the Retromobile exposition today in Paris and saw some pretty cool stuff I thought I'd share with you Smile

There was also a company selling a rFactor-based simulator. I beat the best time after 5 laps of course :D But what was strange is that they were using the 1976 F2 mod, claiming they made it. I told them I knew the guy who created the 3D models (David Sabre) and they answered they did the physics and a "partner" made the models. They didn't really tell me if they sell their simulator with the mod or not. Do you know anything about this David ? Here's their website : http://adomisim.com/fiche-technique-disciplines/

On their website I saw some pictures with some cars from the Endurance Series mod, from HGT, and some mod with the 911 GT1 (available for rFactor since forever). So it's weird indeed. There are also some pictures of Mid-Ohio by Virtua_LM.

I don't know if they really use these mods/tracks for their clients but it's really weird though :bangry:
And anyway if they made these mods themselves (I really don't think so), I doubt that Porsche had "given" them the rights to make the 911 GT1 for instance.

Making money with this... I can see them in troubles sooner or later :aie:

Great pics :top:

The 1976 F2 mod was made by me and only me. I'm not in anyway their "partner" or have ever had any contact with them. They could have made some new physics I've no idea. Its an old mod and it will look dated but I guess that they use it because it has two French chassis with Renault engines.
So no I know nothing about it.

So is it a theft or not?
Should we flood their site under tons of insults?

Using the F2 76 mod for profit is not really correct. I hope that they didn't pay someone for the models. I don't see any images of the mod on their website so maybe they only loaded the mod up for this retro show.
I think that its ok if they use it although realising where it came from and giving credit for it would have been nice.
Is it theft - I don't know, its probably not the correct thing to do but I don't really mind.
Insults on their site - No I don't think so, it will make us look small.

Stay cool :frank:

Legally speaking it is not an easy matter to understand. You modelled something for what you didn't have the rights yourself, and while you can't be pursued because you did not make any profit, you also have no way to defend your creation because it wasn't based on a right you owned. That is the basic difference between having right to something and not being liable for it. Subtle, but existing.

OTOH the company that used your models for profit IS doing something pursuable because they are making profit from models (The original car maker) they have no right to. So yeah, it is a theft, but not by stealing from you David, but by stealing from the original owner of the intellectual rights to the models/design/image of the cars.

If that original owner did no longer exist and his rights had been abandoned, then your own rendition of them would have a different consideration and in that case you would be able to protect them. Not in the image/design, obviously, but in your own virtual recreation as a specific combo of polygons and textures.

Not sure if it is clear, but that's the way I see it from the legal point of view Smile

Look small is for those who steal, not those who are stolen. Wink
My body doesn't allow me to kick their ass, so the insults, hidden behind the screen, is the more courageous thing I can do. lol!

Well, the original 1976 F2 European championship was sanctionned by the FIA. So they should have some claim to it. Perhaps some simple tell-taling with the FIA may suffice...

That being said, that is probably even less valiant than flooding their site with insults ... Rolling Eyes

Nice pics Gui :top:

Big shame on this company stealing the work of talented modders such as you Dave Evil or Very Mad . Very tempting indeed to drop a virtual dump on their website, but I will respect your call for restrain :D . Do you intend to contact them and set things straight though ?
