Indeed always my well aged g25. :conduit:
I know you claustrophobic, I didn't want affraid you with a gt or tourism car. :D
The cats took the sun rays, sleeping on the couch. Cool
Yes, it's a mexican wrestling mask that my sweet bring me back from her trip in Mexico some months ago. My nickname with it on my face is "Pepito el Magnífico", say that with a wrestling voice announcer. :hihi:

Indeed, it's the biggest fear of the french people that the sky fall on our heads. affraid  :D
I've still never dance, but I already did some striptease during races because too hot temp in the room. :banane:

The back pink color is fixed for the picture but I can use it like an ambilight Philips system when I play or watch a movie. It's a nice improvement but it needs to stay discreet not too liminous.

After a looong investigation of various display options, i finally came to the conclusion. Triple screen setup is simply too large and i don't like the disturbing frames. TVs are problematic due to input lag, and to have TV wide enough for sim racing means that it has to be huge, plus UHD resolution might be too heavy for hardware. Way too many cons. Finally, the last option might be the best - ultrawide monitor. There are several on the market, but there's one that stands out. I'm pretty sure that this is THE one to have for gaming. Anybody owns one?

To make things even better, when it's used with TrackIR (or any other cheaper alternative) it looks just awesome.

Which brand/model will you buy? From my point of view, the reasons for Benq XR3501 are size, refresh rate and that curve. The only downside might be resolution, but as it has the same pixel density as my current 27 inch 16:9, i don't mind at all. And it's reasonably priced at some 550 euro here in CZ, which is nearly 50% off the original price. Did you find something more suitable for racing in +/-500 euro range?

Actually not, but I haven't yet looked in depth into it. I know i want something ultrawide and curved, that I decided some time ago; but I have been waiting for prices to fall to a good range once the novelty of the new format was over. Probably in april I will start looking seriously at available options and get the new one.

Thank you Wink  I believe this is the best gaming ultrawide on the market now. It has the largest screen, the biggest curve (more beneficial than i thought), colors are bright, it's super smooth with 144hz, the build is rock solid, no wobble at all. And it's reasonably priced. There are two downsides - resolution is only 1080p, but quite frankly, it doesn't bother at all when you race. And it's better for FPS. The only thing i do mind is lack of height adjustment which means that i will have to be more precise while designing the cockpit. Other than that, if you don't want/can't go for VR or triples, this is an awesome alternative and i can highly recommend it. I'll try head tracking to be able to look around, will update you how it works.

"Only" 1080? Watch your standards :langue:

Well, what's the best you can get? Those 4K ones with 4480 or whatever it is?

I actually bought an Occulus before christmas(as people can see on my simracing account on FB), but as I am mostly racing rF2, I am waiting for them to implement VR.

I do have AC and Dirt, but I am also rather short on USB ports(do you think it makes a difference between old 2.0 and 3.0 for VR?) and might need to increase the number of ports soon.

Especially when I hear that the Heusinkveld pedals need... 3 USb ports, one for each pedal? pale

There's also a programme that might turn rF1 usable to some extend with VR and you can turn the head without needing the look left/right buttons, but it doesn't always seem to work.

PostSubject: Re: Your racing "office"   Tue 28 Mar 2017 - 20:32

Michal visited me yesterday in order to test his home-made Head tracking device. Basically a webcam and a clip with three LEDs. Sadly, we had SW issues and couldn't make it work properly. But then, he realized that there is an application for cell phone that transforms the phone (with accelerometer) into a head tracking device. So i taped my old phone on headphones, put it on his head and gave it a try. For some unknown reason, Michal put a ban on making the photos public Wink Okay, okay, i understand, he looks like a Teletubbie with the phone at the top of his head Very Happy Anyway, we installed the app, started rF and... it works!

The first impressions are very good. The original reason why i wanted to try head tracking was the ability to look left/right when there's a car beside me. This works quite well. But the main benefit is looking into corners. Wow, just wow. It takes a few laps to get used to it, but once you deal with the fact that the car isn't fixed on the screen, it feels just great. Hitting apexes is the most natural thing to do, driving is way more immersive. It's also fantastic for truck simulators, where you can freely look around and enjoy the scenery. And flight simulators too.

I have to admit that this phone tracker isn't ideal, as input lag is significant and it's not very precise. TrackHat or some other Camera/LED devices are clearly a better choice. But as a demo of the Head Tracking world, this is an awesome stuff. And anyone with a smartphone can try it for free. I think Head Tracking is an interesting alternative to triple screen and even half way to VR, especially with an ultrawide monitor.

The cell phone app:

The device i'll highly probably buy:

I just got my new TrackHat. Build quality is outstanding, there's a very nice installation guide, they have their own software and everything works as expected. I drove some laps with AI at Michigan speedway at it seems to be quite useful, as I could look around and check other cars. I also like that I can look towards apexes on road courses, the experience is quite intense. And it's superb for truck simulators and flying too. I paid some 34 GBP including shipping, which is a very decent pricetag. I can only recommend it :top:

A short demo with TrackHat. Head movement is relatively small, but it makes a world of difference. Sorry for crappy driving

Ctrl + F Petr Wink Also, DAT punt :hihi:

Cool sutff, but don't you always need to wear a cap? Or is it a different one?

I got a Rift and the following program says it could work with it, but I am not sure if it really will:

http://www.vorpx.com/features/

I haven't even tried the Rift yet though.

I am using facetrack noir and get similar results. Currently I am trying to find the right configuration as I dont have that wide LCD it is a little bit more tricky. For flight sims I am used to fly with face tracking and it is very good, add a lot to the experience. In case of race cars it is no that easy to compare, but with right settings I guess it would be very useful especially in case of oval racing.
