@Greg:

Sorry, I jumped out of my windowed game to read stuff and didn't see your messages before you went off the server Rolling Eyes

My setup overall still lacks IMO... I am not sure if I am going the right way with tyre pressures to have both ideal settings for grip aswell as degredation over a race distance.

Not to mention I feel like my car still understeers a tiny bit too much and the handling in the twisty sections is a bit lacking as the car is slackish on turn-in.

@Michal: I don't believe that something will happen before the race.

Nothing will happen before the race Janak, anyway the fault that was mentioned may not affect the driving (Physics) of the car in any way.

Yes it affects when the car bottoms out (hits the ground) but since the wrong point is actually higher than the rest it will never hit the ground before the rest of the car does, so it has no effect at all.

You might however get a wrong reading in telemetry, as the plug in might think the car is higher than it actually is. But this has no effect.

The lag was real in the opening laps Surprised In a couple of occasions the car in front seemed to leave the door open, only to warp back and close it.

Made my way towards the top 10 until I spun into the barrier and the front went byebye Neutral

Could have been a better race for me. The lack of grip on the front and the low top speed killed my chance to get into the top10 but it was fun to drive this little car. Had a really good start from the back and gained 10 places on the first lap but then the lack of pace became clear. On lap 4 I spun off in turn 1 and then an other car spun off too and rekt the front on my car :aie: Anyway, it was fun and well organised so high five for HSO! :chinois:

no probs....I gotta deal with these situations a bit(alot) better. I did not back off enough even though I had plenty of warning/distance....

I am as sorry for not avoiding you. I fealt like I was gatecrashing a party...to be thrown out......twice Smile

I think we should do more of these FA races as it is good practice in wheel to wheel.

Had one hell of a battle with Petr, which in the end ruined my tires. Had no choice but to settle for 6th in the end. Shame, since the driving felt good, consistent and fun. But lacked pace, I think my Ralt had too much drag. Oh well, this was a fun Sunday.

I had a VIP seat to watch that wheel-banging between David and Yves, amazing stuff :top: Then i lost touch with the guys, had one unnecessary spin and had a very nice battle with Jacob. At the end, i had to watch out for Dana as she pushed really hard, but i made it to the finish at p4. I'm really happy, these cars are exactly where my comfort zone is. Nice little race with nice little cars Wink Grats to podium! Now back to those 1991 frustration-makers :aie:

PostSubject: Re: SA Republic Day Trophy [Jan 15th]   Sun 15 Jan 2017 - 22:45

Things started well...I got caught in a wad of cars, coming into turn 1 on Lap 2 I locked up and slid into the back of Jason, he kept going, I spun off....Dropped me back to 30th or so. I managed to fight back up, with help from retirements.

With less than 10 laps to go, I got into a fight with Ludo, was a nice scrap, even though he did run me into the pit wall on the front stretch.... This caused me to brake a smidgen later in Turn 1 and I overshot slight and fell back into Michael Dreschler's sights. He managed to get by me, because I went off. Watched him and Steve Parker fight it out, for what I'm not sure, Steve was a full lap ahead of him.

In the end I managed to finish 21st, one position up from Qualifying. No doubt these cars are very fun to drive, but we need to try them on a different track. This track is just wrong. Whoever created it for GPL built it wrong and everyone else has just used it as a base since then. Be nice if someone opted to try and create the track correctly.

Grats to the Top 3, Greg was in a whole different Timezone than everyone else.

Ah, well, that one was planned differently. Qualifying was okay, nearly got the car into the 1:23s at the last moment, but I was happy with my time and position. I got away from the starting line pretty well, gained a position, discipline at the first corner was great, and I found myself in a nice place, with a nice handling car. Over the course of the first few laps, I could gain some positions, as others had their mishaps, enjoyed a nice battle with Raul for a while. Then came lap 5, nearing Leukoop, I saw Ludovic spinning. I chose a path around the outside, Raul the path through the inside. Unfortunately, he couldn't avoid Ludovic, ran into him and pushed him into my path. Gone was my front wing, and my hopes for a good result. So I went into the pits, had a lenghty repair stop, and came back one lap down, and as some other casualties of the incident dropped out, I became the last car running. I moved on, lacking a bit the last confidence in my car by now, thought briefly about calling it a day, but moved on nonetheless. I gained a position, when Konstantin had to pit, came a bit closer to Ludovic and Jason in front of me, passed Jason when he had a spin, and finished in 20th. Not what I hoped for. I was behind Steve Parker for most of the time and always felt a bit like I could go a bit faster than him, but getting ahead of him would have needed some brute force I wouldn't want to apply being a lap down. I guess he would have been someone I might have fought for position if things hadn't gone awry earlier. Then, I wouldn't have lifted on the main straight Wink For once, I had a setup I was pretty satisfied with, but well, it shouldn't have been :smil20:

This was my first start on a road course and I managed to reach my goal, which was to not get in anybody's way, not wreck, and to finish.Very Happy Congratulations to Greg & all the top finishers. Thanks for all your kind birthday wishes. Hope you will want to run the 1960 Indy Roadsters at Milwaukee next month. These cars are a real handful and will challenge your skills & patience. There is a base line race setup I posted on our HSO main page.

Its super disturbing if you could go faster, but the guy in front of you doesn't really allow and isn't rearlly your competition as well. Not sure if I could have caught Ludovic on a free track, but I'd surely been closer to him in the end. Sure, dead rubber, but 19th still looks better than 20th Wink

Congratulations to everyone for attending, 30 cars on the grid is excellent and I only saw a high standard of driving. :top:

I qualified 9th which is about where I was expecting to be but I had to go 0.5s faster than I had managed in testing.
For once a good start jumped me up to 7th and then I was just hoping to hold on. I let Jan Kowalski past as he seemed to be faster than me only for him to spin and lose a place or two. Jan then recovered towards the end of the race and he got past me again, so I finished 8th which is as good as I was going to do around here.

A good fun race. Congrats Greg, David and Yves.

My first race without a disco since Dec 4th! :aie: With that streak of bad luck in mind, I invested fairly little time in setup/practice and was pleased to qualify well despite an ill-handling car.

A rare good start followed by a wide exit at Sunset on lap two meant I quickly settled into a lonely sixth and spent much of the race comforted with the fact that Petr and Jacob's rear wing's were only slowly inching away. A bit of bad luck for Jacob promoted me to fifth toward the end but, even with tire wear helping me make up a bit of time, I couldn't challenge Petr and cruised to the finish of a pleasant, if undramatic, Sunday drive. Smile

That was hard work!

I didn't find a setup I felt comfortable with and every other lap it snapped away under braking into Crawthorn. It was so frustrating I felt like launching the car to the other side of the Atlantic. :D My getaway was clean and reasonably fast too, but I was a sitting duck every time we got to the end of the main straight. Thankfully my opponents had to defend their own positions as well so I wasn't being attacked on every turn. As I didn't have the speed, all I could do was make the car was wide as possible when someone did get close enough. I picked up a few places from the wreckage at Leeukop and ended the race in 12th place, without any encounters with the scenery - a rare feat for me on a road course in an open wheeler. My cars usually magnetically attracted to solid objects surrounding the track. :D

And after the Jordan-Ford and the Ford engined Atlantic my next vehicle will be another ford, the Mondeo. I suppose I better book C100 for Monza, and something Cosworth engined once we move on to CART, just to keep the trend going. lol!

He only had to switch twice to get it lol!

Q: P2.

R: P2! But that was a tough one!

Suddenly I wasn't performing as well as in the qualification and Yves pressured me.

After a few laps, I let him have P2 as I noticed Petr falling back so I could follow in Yves' shadow and save my tyres.

My initial attack 2 laps from the end was in theory correct, as lapped cars could have opened up a gap between him and me and playing the waiting game could have gone wrong.

But I couldn't get away and we were back to status quo before the last lap.

I managed a sneaky overtake into the Esses in the last sector and finished in my starting position.

Probably my best race since coming back Smile

Got a bit awkward while lapping some cars, but it was managable.
