Wow! What a cool site!.
My name is Robert and I am 58 years old.
Got hooked on simracing with Indy 500 simulation by Papyrus on my old 386 sx 16 computer.

Haven't stopped since.

In real life was lucky to race motocross, a few slaloms and even did a few races in the old Lola T342.
I was amazed when I found that it had been modeled for rFactor!

Cannot describe the feeling of blasting around virtual Westwood B.C. in my virtual T342!

I finally figured out the fast entry into The Carousel after a couple hundred laps [ and about 30 years later] ... Wish had these mods back then. Would have made a huge difference.
..Same with the " infamous " Turn 3 .

SimRacing does help drivers learn. It's an awesome tool. It's amazing how much progress has been made.

My brother will be racing a Van Diemen Formula Continental this year. I suggested that he would benefit from some simracing over the winter... but he doesn't have time for " video games ". SMH.

I found your very interesting site when searching for setups and info about the 1976 Formula Atlantics mod. By far my favorite mod. I just love them.

Was pleased to see that my low 1:04's at Westwood are in the ballpark.

Believe it or not... there are still places without high speed internet! Like where I live.

Unfortunately it will be a couple of years before I can race with you folks -even if i was graciously granted an entry... this satellite connection is just too laggy for any online gaming.

I still wanted to register here and show support for your awesome site and hard work.

This is a great simracing community.... I'll be hanging around.

Best regards,
robert

Now those are some credentials! :D

We would like to see you racing here, so give a try in one HSO servers before ruling out your connection, rfactor is not that demanding and can accept some slower ones. Smile

P.D: plese edit your profile with your real name, its mandatory here thanks :hello:

Hi Robert :hello: Welcome among us and thanks for the kind words Smile Could you please edit your profile with your full name - it's the rule at HSO Smile

Nice to hear you drove on the great Westwood track - I just love this track and it was a blast to race on with the Atlantic cars when we did the CASC series Cool ! I hope you'll get a decent internet connection soon, you sound like the cliché HSO member : true racing fan, courteous and enthusiast :top: ! And a Papyrus Indy 500 lover too :drink:   !

In the meantime feel free to hang around. If your connection does not allow you to do official races, you can still give it a try on our training servers if you want... when the satellite is at its zenith over your little piece of B.C. (not sure this gives you a better bandwith though geek ).

:hello:

edit : dang I was real slow typing that one ^^

I think the problem is not the bandwith, but the ping. And for simulation, the ping is more than important.

Hi Robert and welcome here. :frank:

For sure I'll try a server later this eve when sat isn't so busy.

Welcome Robert.

Haha, the days where we still pounded the blue March around the brickyard... I missed Revs and Indy 500 was my first sim experience. It felt so real back then... I destroyed several arrow-keys playing it. Well mainly left arrows actually Laughing

Hey thanks Richard!

Hi Carl thanks for the welcome. Yes Westwood is gone. It was a very special and different kind of
racing track that had some mysterious ways... some folks claimed that person could race it a lifetime and never nail turn 3 perfectly. The rFactor mod seems pretty accurate by my rusting recollection.
Guess that will have to suffice. Nice to meet you.

Hello Timo.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yep! That's the one!
I agree seemed real.. especially ability to set up the chassis. Way cool.

Sorry to hear about your arrow keys.. we experienced that as well until found out a joystick would configure in.
Nice smooth turn ins just a slow gentle puuuuuush.. was faster too.

I still don't trust arrow keys to this day.
