Unless you want to watch last year's re-run, the track being dried out or fans being evacuated from the circuit, there's not much to see-there are tornado warnings

Yeah, when I was 25 like you I thought the same. Later you learn to be patient and let them say their nonesense, after all the blood supply to their brains isn't what it once was.

But my point is, Petty has got nothing to lose and what he does can be expected from an old grumpy guy - It's Danica who has got more to lose by showing that she can't handle the provocations from an arrogant old guy. Will she kick his butt if they jumped into a race car? Of course, but everybody expects that, same as everybody expects Petty to behave like an asshole in such things. After all, he is old, grumpy, redneck and lots of other things. But what excuse does Danica have to go down to that level? None. She should know better.

Petty is going to put her into the wall. Race over.

She did smash the wall pretty hard last night and popped right out with no crying (well, a little whining but not too much).

First, good IndyCar drivers doesn't necessarily make good NASCAR drivers (Franchitti was a big failure, it took ages to Hornish to get results in Nationwide...), nevermind average IndyCar drivers.

And as Petty said, she's not a racer. She got her IndyCar results by staying out of trouble and with attrition, but in NASCAR with 2 times more opponents and fenders, you can't hide on track.
This year at Las Vegas, commentators were excited that she was fast in practice, but at race time, she went back where she belongs, at the back of field.

Quite easily. Indy/ChampCar champs such as Villeneuve, Montoya and indeed Franchitti struggled to adapt. In the end, JPM has come running back to IndyCar! Razz

Hmmm yes right ... I remember now Carroll Smith saying that the cars are so different that good open wheel racers didn't normally do well on tin tops; and gave Jim Clark as example! :hum:

Still AJ Foyt did well on both series, but Daytona isn't exactly the average oval where stock cars work as usual.

LMAO what will be next for Danica? A boxing fight with Muhammed Ali, who is 72 and suffers Parkinson? Or a challenge against Muchael Schumacher in coma?

At this rate her legend will only grow bigger and bigger  Rolling Eyes

Someone should do a simracing challenge with F1 greats. Just to see if their driving skills transfer over to the digital realm.

Basic motor skills and coordination as well as sensitivity and ability to learn do certainly translate to simracing. We have lots of examples about that, and it goes both ways. Some time ago iRacing decided to put simracing legend Gregger Huttu in a real car from the skip barber racing school and he quickly started going fast -and he didn't even have driving license in real life! Conversedly, Reiza Studios put Emerson Fittipaldi at the wheel of their virtual recreation of Emmo's 1979 car, and again Emmo was fast with it. You can find the story about Huttu in Youtube, there's a nice video of it, and the one about Emmo came up recently in Virtualracing news.
As for the modern generation of racers like Hamilton, Alonso, Dale jr. etc they all are known to be fast at simracing and they regularly train in proffesional grade simulators.

The only thing you can't transfer to real life is BALLS and that's what probably explains any other difference  :D

But I would bet some money that if we put Guillaume, Martin, JP, Antoine, Tiago or any of our aliens on a real car, they would be fast and learn quickly. And they would also still be faster in real life than us who are slower than them in the virtual world

It's been a year now that I regulary go go-karting with friends and collegues and I'm sure simracing has helped me a lot, as I was instantly "quick", at least quicker than guys who have been doing that for years now. For sure it helps finding the grip's limits. But I also raced against Michelin test drivers, and there was nothing I could do against them, they just understand the dynamics of the vehicle better than me. It's not about balls, it's just about technique at this point.

I remember the Iracing video Alberto mention, Recall the guy had to stop because he was physically sick on track and his body couldn't cope with the demands after several laps.

I never had good motor skills for complex things like driving or soccer (which I hate) or similar, but I was really good at boxing  :D

Probably (and I would like to find out! Smile), but I also reckon that a lot of simracing aliens actually have such unrealistic driving styles their speed on virtual racetracks would not automatically translate into real-life physical driving skill.

But that's actually what would make them be fast on real cars. They have the sensitivity to quickly learn that doing this or that results in faster laps, unlike guys like me who refuse doing in simracing things we would not do in real life and don't have a clue at how to be faster. The ability to learn, to be trained, is what differentiates elite sportsmen from the rest, more so than physichal qualities. Those can count for extreme body requirements like athletics, but for complex and coordinated activities like driving, soccer, tennis, etc where body resistance is more important than brute force or peak force, almost anybody can get to the needed physical level - and then it's the menthal thing what counts. The video with Huttu proves that: The basic quality that differentiates him is his ability to be trained at anything that implies coordination and sensitivity to slight changes that later make the difference.

Haas will fail in F1. In NASCAR, he had a pretty bad team, before Stewart came in.
Haas has the money, but he won't be successful in making decisions to set up a good team. We just got a preview.

Even thinking of Danica for a race seat is ridiculous, and
"Driver number two would be American" : I challenge him to find an American driver that can be successful in F1.

Or, simply put, +1 Alberto :D

Est-ce que Danica en F1, c'est plus ridicule encore que Paul Belmondo?
