After the last test race, it looks like a good number of drivers don't know the few tweaks to do on their race setup :

- The engines are very sensitive to very high revs. Turn down the max RPM by 300 to 400 RPM and you should be safe for the race. Of course you will still have to lift the throttle during upshifts (expect for the lucky guys at Ferrari and Williams).
- Radiator should be set at least on 7. But make sure you have everything setup to be able to stop and restart your engine in case of a lenghty pitstop for repairs, or your engine will overheat quickly while the car is standing still.
- Brakes thickness (see the last tab in the garage setup screen) should be set on the maximum value to avoid brake failures during the race.
- The cars don't have an onboard starter. This means that if you don't use the autoclutch driving aid, if you stall the car outside the pitlane, you will not be able to restart it.
=====================

"Turn down max. Rev"

That just means shift earlier, no? You have to lift the throttle anyway.

In the .pdf file (in the vehicles folder), it suggests to lower the max RPM in the set up menu

So instead of max. 14'300 it's 13'900 RPM as safe number? I think I was running 14'200.

If your limiter is set before the engine enters a dangerous zone of rpm, then you will not be able to overrev it even if you don't lift when shifting. Of course you still will be able to kill it if reducing gears too happily, as in that case the car inertia will shoot the rpms through the roof.

Leo's FFB plugin has much better feel for steering than RealFeel for this mod.

Bit of a work to tweak but totally worth it. I'm still in progress of doing mine and will post the values here when satisfied.

EDIT:

Here are my settings. They are made for Lotus with steering ratio of 16, caster of 6, super soft tyres, cambers F=2.8, R=1.9. I use 450 degrees of wheel rotation and 105% of force from logitech profiler (I have G25). RFactor ffb should be set to -100 and low to medium forces depending on track.

16.0 Front Wheel lock angle, degrees (max deflection to one side from straight on)
0.9 Front wheel distance to centerline (half the front wheel track) in metres, from .pm file
1.475 Front axle distance to body reference point (about half the wheel base) in metres, from .pm file
3.0 Relative strength of FFB effects
10.0 Aligning moment curve shape / feeling of tyre losing grip. Lower numbers are duller, range 1.0 .. 10
0.99 Negative aligning moment parameter for high slip angles, range 0.0 ... 1.0
6.578121491134898 Slip angle where aligning moment reverses direction - typically between 8 and 15 degrees
0.105 Caster (dimetionless)
1.4736 Camber ratio (not degrees!)
1.0 Road bumps feeling on the wheel
11500.0 maximum FFB force for stationary and low speed effects
10.0 stiffness of stationary wheels
1.5 wheel rubber hardness (1..5)
8.0 how quickly static forces drop off when rolling

For those who are interested, go dload the plugin from rfactorcentral, install .ini file to rfactor root and .dll file to plugins folder.

Get Leo's FFB plugin here: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Leo's%20FFB%20plugin

NOTE:

These settings work ONLY for Lotus and with setup points stated above. Every car is different. You need to tweak the file according to the .hdv .pm and your setup. More read about how to find correct values here:

how to tweak leo FFB

ENJOY!

Why wouldn't you be able to add more fuel in a pit stop during the race?

Either I have missed something or I am very much back to the drawing board with this car.

Lower the boost to reduce fuel consumption.

Oscar: 1991 didn't have refueling during the pitstop.

The fuel prediction is completly wrong Wink

1991 didn't have turbocharged engines either Smile but yes you can better your fuel mileage by playing with the fuel mixture level which is linked to the boost buttons in rFactor.

Just checked on the mod and did some emergency setup changes Smile

I like to think that every year was a refueling year but the reality is that not that many were and I am an in-observant fool Smile

Well almost every season of GP racing allowed for refuelling, bar maybe the 1984-1993 period.
